HAND, HEAD & HEART
Laima Grigone has been down in Cornwall for the last three years training in ceramics, below is her collection of hand thrown tea sets. Finished with the loveliest soft matt glaze, these new pieces have severely increased the happy wrinkles around my eyes, I can’t really explain how nice they are to hold. These pieces would sit nicely in any surrounding, the perfect interior accent piece for tea enthusiasts.
A recurrent theme in Laima’s work is interconnectedness and she explores this through a number of formats, ranging from one-off kinetic automatons to functional tableware. Notions of stewardship, sustainability, and social empowerment form the underlying ethos behind her work. Using natural materials such as clay and wood Laima examines the human relationship with nature. She says, “For millennia our bond with nature has been intimate and secure, but now is becoming increasingly fragile. My work is centred upon the importance of being connected to the land and having a light footprint on the Earth.”
Laima is also part of Saltfox.co.uk a craft collective currently based in Cornwall delivery creative workshops to the local community. see more of her work here
